The European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting, preserving, and defending media freedom and professional journalism across Europe. Based in Leipzig, Germany, ECPMF operates as a European co-operative.

The Digital Communications and Outreach Assistant will support the Communications Officer and the wider ECPMF team in most of the external communication activities. This role focuses on social media management, digital content creation, and community engagement to strengthen ECPMF’s visibility and impact.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with strong digital communication skills, creativity, and a passion for press freedom to gain hands-on experience in an international NGO environment.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Social Media and Digital Content
    • Assist in creating, managing and scheduling posts for ECPMF’s social media channels.
    • Support the creation of engaging multimedia content (graphics, short videos, visuals) in line with ongoing campaigns, advocacy work, and events.
  • 2. Outreach and Community Engagement
    • Assist in maintaining and updating mailing lists and preparing newsletters.
    • Engage with journalists, partners, and stakeholders online, helping to grow ECPMF’s digital community.
  • 3. Events and Campaigns
    • Assist in preparing promotional materials for events, webinars, and campaigns.
    • Support live coverage (live-tweeting, short video clips, stories, etc.) during online and offline events.
  • 4. Website and Analytics
    • Support in uploading and formatting content on the ECPMF website and the MFRR site as needed.
    • Help track and analyse website and social media performance using analytics tools.
Your profile
Essential:
  • Ongoing or completed studies in communications, journalism, media, international relations, or a related field.
  •  Proven experience with social media management and content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe, Hootsuite).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Good understanding of digital storytelling and audience engagement.
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  •  Interest in press freedom, media rights, and wider European civil society issues.
Desirable:
  • Knowledge of analytics tools (Google Analytics, native social media insights).
  • Basic video editing skills.
  • Working knowledge of German.
  • Experience with WordPress or similar CMS.

  • Salary based on the German public collective agreement TVL 8 (gross salary 1.660  - 1.780 EUR depending on experience).
